Evolution of ingredients is important
It is not about changing to what is “IN” or trending. The reasons behind the continuous improvement of Shakeology is just as comforting to me as the changes themselves.

Matcha and chaga are available in all Shakeology flavors! In addition, the vitamins and minerals in our non-vegan formulas are now tailored to address our most common nutrient gaps.
Why a reformulated Shakeology?
We always have been, and always will be, in constant pursuit of perfecting our shakes. With this continuous improvement philosophy, we are constantly on the lookout for new beneficial ingredients and the highest-quality, best available ingredients in the marketplace. With the launch of Vanilla Vegan and Café Latte Vegan, we introduced two new superfood ingredients, matcha and chaga. And now matcha and chaga are available in all Shakeology flavors!
What are the new benefits?
Why: Matcha is a powerful green leaf tea that has potent phytonutrients. Along with other superfood-phytonutrients in Shakeology, matcha can help support health and vitality. Our matcha green tea powder is Japanese-grown from a family-owned supplier that is USDA organic certified. Matcha has been used for centuries in ancient Japanese tradition and is carefully cultivated from our suppliers to deliver the highest quality form of the ingredient.
Why: Chaga is a woody mushroom, which along with other adaptogens in Shakeology, have been traditionally used to help the body adapt and respond to effects of stress. Our chaga is American grown from a supplier that is USDA organic certified.
Added: Organic Cane Sugar
Why: Our organic cane sugar is made from freshly harvested sugarcane that is minimally processed. This high quality sugar gives Shakeology a full-bodied sweetness you’ll love.
Why: Selenium is an essential trace element that has various functions in the body, mainly through proteins that contain selenium (selenoproteins). Selenoproteins are a crucial part of the body’s antioxidant defense system.
Improved: Folate, Vitamin K, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin E
Why: Folic acid, the main form used in supplements, is effective when it’s converted to its active form, L-methylfolate (i.e. the form that our bodies can use). It’s estimated that 30-50% of the population do not have adequate enzyme activity to of convert folic acid to folate. The new form of folate we use is already the active form, allowing those with a decreased ability to convert folic acid to folate to benefit fully.
Vitamin K occurs naturally in two forms: Vitamin K1 and Vitamin K2. Our new formula uses Vitamin K2 , which helps maintain healthy bones.
Finally, our new formula uses the methylcobalamin form of Vitamin B12, which is quickly available for usage by the body. Vitamin B12 is important for energy production and works together with folate in the synthesis of DNA and red blood cells. It is also important for the nervous system.
Our formula now uses Succinate Vitamin E, which is 100% derived from sunflowers, non-GMO, soy-free, certified Kosher Parve and Halal. This form of Vitamin E is highly stable and more resistant to degrading when exposed to light or air compared to other forms of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant
that helps combat free radical damage.
Increased: Vitamin D and Magnesium
Why: Vitamin D comes in many forms, the most important being D2 and D3. We’ve added more Vitamin D3, which is the same form your skin synthesizes when exposed to ultraviolet-B (UVB) from sunlight, and is more bioavailable than the D2 form. Vitamin D is necessary for calcium absorption and supports healthy bones and muscle function.
Magnesium is required for the action of over 300 enzymes in the body, which support a variety of processes including normal muscle and nervous system function. Due to the fact that many of us are not getting enough Magnesium, we have increased the amount in Shakeology to help you meet your daily requirements of this important nutrient.
Added: Sacha Inchi
Why: Our non-vegan flavors have always had sacha inchi, which is a superfood native to Peru and is also known as an Inca nut. We’re thrilled that sacha inchi is now a part of our protein blend across the full Shakeology product line, including our vegan flavors!
What was removed from the old Shakeology formula and why?
Why: Due to future concerns about the future ability to source reliably source and consistently efficacious high-quality spirulina, it is being removed from Shakeology formulas.
We have added matcha and increased the ingredient amounts in our phytonutrient blend (this is not true in Greenberry). These nutrient dense ingredients provide similar nutritive benefits that you would find in spirulina and also help support health and vitality.
Removed: Fructose (applies to whey formulas only)
Why: While striving for the highest quality ingredients, our formulators discovered that replacing fructose with organic cane sugar results in a more well-rounded sweetness. Plus, our sugar source is now organic!
Removed: Agave (Applies to vegan formulas only)
Why: To reduce sugars while still maintaining sweetness, Agave has been removed and replaced with Organic Cane Sugar.
While striving for the highest quality ingredients, our formulators discovered that replacing agave with organic cane sugar results in a more well-rounded sweetness. Plus, our sugar source is now organic! You’ll also notice on the label that there’s a 1g sugar reduction in Vegan Chocolate and Vegan Tropical Strawberry.
